Mississippi Convenes Joint Senate House Drug Policy Committee Hearing Thursday on Kratom Ban
The Mississippi proposed ban will be the subject of Thursday’s joint Hearing of the Senate and House Drug Policy Committees. The Hearing will commence at 3:30 pm, but the room number is changing so kratom advocates should check carefully. The present plan is the Hearing will be held in a very small room so kratom advocates should arrive at least 30 minutes early to make certain you have a space along the wall to stand. There will be handouts and stickers to help you talk with individual legislators, to find the AKA team at the Capitol today. For those who can, arrive early in the day and work the hallways to talk with legislators to tell the kratom story.
Georgia Representative Vernon Jones and Dr. Jack Henningfield will be at the Hearing to testify and explain why the Kratom Consumer Protect Act is the best option to protect kratom consumers. While the public may not have much time to testify, your emails and phone calls are helping. And if you can attend to show solidarity, please do so.
The West Virginia Senate Will Vote Today on Third Reading of SB 847 –
Your Emails and Calls are Working!
The leadership of the West Virginia Senate has allowed for the kratom ban contained in SB 847 to be subject to a strike amendment at third reading – a very unusual move – because the kratom community has spoken loudly. Please keep the emails and calls flowing both to the members of the Senate and the House of Delegates. This ban was literally “snuck in” to this routine update of the West Virginia controlled substances list with no public notice and most of the members of the West Virginia legislator were completely blindsided by this proposal.
